Weekend battles

So how did it go?
Very good I would say, as I won two of three matches. But I would call it more of a beginners luck than anything else.

I was able to borrow some units so my army of 998 points consisted of:

Scar-veteran - light armour, shield and Burning Blade of Chotec.
16 Saurus warriors - full command.
15 Saurus warriors - musican and standard
10 Skink skirmisher
10 Skink skirmisher
2 Salamanders
and finally a Skrox unit with 2 Kroxigors and 18 Skinks(one musician).

First match against Tomb Kings: I think it was an even match until the last turn when I managed to wipe his army. It ended in a decisive victory somehow. Another note of that match was that I was very lucky with my parry saves.

Second match against Warriors of Chaos(Nurgle): This was also a even match and ended with a victory for me. But it could have been a completely diffrent outcome if my opponent didin’t blow up his wizard and some chaos warriors with him in turn 1. Also the trend of luck on parry saves continued.

Third and final match against High Elves: I got demolished and barely scratch him, atleast it felt like that. Wasn’t as lucky this time around.

Overall I’m extremly happy with my performence and looking forward to next time we have a small tournament.

A to buy list for next time:
- Salamanders of my own as they were fun to use.
- Skink priest as I want to test some magic.
- More Saurus warrios and Skinks.
- Maybe some Kroxigors if my wallet allows it.

Motivational challenge and other stuff

Pledge for May will be 5 skinks with handweapon and blowpipe.

It will only be five of them because with the pledge of april it felt like I had to rush it in the end. By doing this I hope that it will lead to better quality and that I don’t have to feel that I have to repaint some of it.

In other news, I will participate in a smal tournament against some friends this weekend. It will be with a maximum of 1000 points. As I don’t have 1000 points yet I will borrow some units from a friend. I don’t expect to win it but hopefully I will win atleast one game.

I’m sort of happy with the result except for the banner as I didnt know how to paint it and I will probably repaint it at some point.

For this month my pledge will be ten Saurus warriors. Three of them will be a Saurus Champion, Musician and a Standard bearer.

As for now they all look like this and unlike with the saurus oldblood/scar-veteran I will paint everything before I put it together.

Had a game of warhammer this friday against a friend. I played my lizardmen and he played as the tomb kings.

I won by a large margin as he only killed two of my saurus warriors and 10 temple guards. Two of my cold one cavalry died but that was because of that I charge through woods. While I managed to wipe him out. To be fair though I was very lucky with my rolls, especially with my charge with my saurus warriors as I manage to kill eleven skeleton warriors plus his lord in an challenge. And he failed with things that could have make it alot harder for me to win. I would have done a more detailed report about the match but I will try to do that in my next match.

Things I have learned about the lizardmen:
- I love Saurus warriors. As they hit hard and can take hits rather well.
- Skink skirmishers are better then regular skink, in my opinion.
- I really like the Cold Blooded rule as it is alot easier to succeed with leadership rolls
-I’m not really sure that I like the temple guards that much. I think that they are good but I rather have one more saurus warrior squadron. Have to test them more tho.
-Cold one cavalry, I don’t really know if I like them but I will have to test them more.
- Scar veteran, can’t say much about him except that I like him.

So far I like almost everything about the lizardmen. I would like to try a skink priest out so I can test some magic.

Challenge for March - A New Beginning!

This month will be special because I have decided to start play Warhammer fantasy. I was choosing between Warriors of Chaos or the Lizardmen and after some time arguing with myself I choose Lizardmen.

So I bought the starterbox and a Saurus oldblood this week. I will start slowly by only painting the Saurus oldblood for this month and hopefully a squad for the next but we shall see:

More frigates have been finished.

And now the cruisers

They are not finished tho because I want to add something more to them but I just don’t know what yet. Another thing I have to do with them is to put magnets on them, they are so annoying to move around as they like to tilt and spinn around on there little pole like an idiot.

And for the December challenge I’ll do either the battleship or the submarines or maybe both haven’t decided yet.

Challenge of November is done

Another note is that I got to try my french fleet in a game yesterday against a friend. It went well and I won thanks to having an easier mission than him. He had the mission to destroy or capture all large or massive ships and I had to destroy or capture 50% of his fleet including all small ships. Which was basically kill his small ships and his cruisers. Since I only had one battleship I wasn’t to aggresive with it as I wanted to be.

A few notes on the french.

- The battleship feels kinda weak, especially when it have a heat lance instead of another turret. It might be that he only had one large ship so in future battles I will see if it works better when the opponents have more large ships. (heat lance works so that the more DR(damage rating) the ship has it does more damage).

- Cruisers did ok even tho they died rather quickly in this game.

- The Frigates extra DR made a huge diffrence in this game as they manage to survive longer and dish out some good damage.

-medium flyers were also ok but was more of a annoyance to my opponent as they didn’t manage to any damage this game.

- the submarines were good in the begining of the game as they damage some frigates but didn’t get much use later. It feels like I need to deploy them in a squad of three instead of a squad of two as they do ok damage to small ships at range but need to be three to do damage to larger ships.

Next time I play a game I will try to make it a full battle report.

I have started to paint my french fleet and here is the result

I wanted the blue part to be more clear but Will try a diffrent approach next time and ad the blue after I wash and dry brush the ships.

Well alot of stuff has happening this month. First my phone died and is was gone for 2 weeks for repairs. So I couldn’t take any good pictures. I have quit my job and started to go to university.

Finished my escorts but they are not part of the august challange, Im just lazy again…

But in other news I bought the Hurricane season book today and there are some new rules that seems intresting.

-Fleet commodores have additional things they can do ex. for the Prussians that can make the order of close gunnery wich means that a small or medium ship can hit with it’s Primary weapons on 4, 5, 6 instead of just 5 and 6 in range band 1.

-Reinforced cruiser squadrons can be used and it’s that the normal cruisers and gunships can be mixed in a squad ex. I can have 2 nakatsu cruisers and 2 gunships in the same squad. Armored cruiser can’t be mixed tho.

-Weather! Which is not affecting the shooting part of the game(except in range band 4) but that you will have a harder time to move around on the battlefield if its a storm or tempest.

There is more but I will have to read it more in detail later, especially the weather rules.
